Community

This project would never have gone forward without the valuable input from the people of Oakland. In October of 2015, we held the first of several open meetings at the Oakland Impact HUB to listen to the community and its needs.

We learned that people want a mixed-use location that will expand Oakland’s retail options and provide affordability, walkability, and safety, as well as access to open space for communal areas. The people of Oakland also value adequate housing options, transportation access, and room for economic growth. Above all, EASTLINE should reflect Oakland’s diversity and uniqueness.

The conversation is just getting started. We will continue to open up the planning process and look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Stakeholder Meetings

The community is a integral part of developing this project. Team went to community first for input hosting community forums and small stakeholder meetings with various local groups:

1. Spur Oakland
2. KONO
3. Pastors of Oakland
4. Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
5. Lake Merritt/Uptown District Association
6. East Bay Community Foundation
7. City of Oakland Economic Development
8. East Bay Housing Organizations
9. Paramount Theatre
10. Oakland School of the Arts
11. Kapor Center

Project Timeline

The EASTLINE is currently in the pre-development stage. Following the meeting to unveil the project on November 28th, 2016, our team will submit the proposed plans to the City of Oakland Planning Department for review. This public process also invites community input.

We estimate that the project will be under environmental review for most of 2017. Public comment can be submitted at any time to the project team and between 8am-4pm to the Department of City Planning .
